Help! How Do I Find Roommates?

So you've been accepted to the DCP and don't want to go random with your roommates, but what steps do you take to find roommates if you don't know anyone else doing the program?

I'm going to begin by saying that going random isn't always a terrible thing. My freshman year of college I went in knowing absolutely no one and went random. And guess what! My rooming situation freshman year wasn't a nightmare. We all lived really well together and got along just fine. Going random is not the end of the world.

But I'm assuming you're here because you want to find your roommates before you begin your program. Once people begin getting accepted into the program they start posting roommate surveys in the various Facebook groups (I've listed the roommate survey template I used below). For example, I'm in an accepted Facebook group, a Facebook group for my move-in date, and a Facebook group for 21+ and there are constantly roommate surveys in all of those groups.

Finding a roommate is all about trying to judge if you think you'll be a good fit without ever having met the person before, so it's important to be honest in your roommate survey. Don't say you're clean if you're not. Don't say you don't party if you do. Just don't lie because if you do you're just going to make your living situation miserable for everyone involved and that's the last thing you want!

Most importantly have fun with this! People will comment on your post and be sure to comment on other people's posts. If you hit it off with someone be sure to find more out about them. An important thing to ask is where they hope to live while on their program. You could meet the most amazing person, but if one of you wants to live in Vista and another in Patterson, it's unlikely to work out. Also, don't feel like you have to say yes to rooming with someone if you're not 100% sure you'd be a good fit for one another. Have fun with the process, even if you don't want to room with someone you may have just found yourself a new friend!

As promised below is a template of the roommate survey a lot of people use to find roommates on the various Facebook groups. Note while a lot of the points help others get to know you, the most important ones for finding a roommate are under the lifestyle and personality sections.
