Move-In Day Excitement

The day has officially arrived where my DCP has begun! Follow along to see how my move-in day went.

I'm not going to lie, in the days leading up to move-in I was getting extremely nervous about starting the DCP. It was silly because I have lived abroad twice on my own, one I recently came back from, but I was still extremely nervous about starting the DCP. Like more nervous than when I moved abroad by myself! But the day finally came and it was finally my time to start my program.

My morning started off relatively slow because my check-in wasn't too early so I had time in the morning to organize my life. I had found roommates on Facebook prior to arrival and was nervously waiting to find out if we would in fact be living together. The tensions were high especially since we could only request one roommate and I had initially found three other people to live with, but all of us kept hope that maybe some magic would happen and we'd all end up together.

The first of the four of us moved in and shared the apartment number she was given. Now all we had to do was wait to see if someone from the other half of that equation was placed in the same room or not. So I waited and waited and waited. Suddenly my phone goes off. The second girl from our group of four shared her apartment number and it was the exact same as the first! I couldn't believe it! My nerves immediately turned to excitement as I slowly realized that somehow miraculously the three other people I had wanted to room with would be in the same apartment as me! Magic had happened and even though we didn't all request one another we wound up together!

I couldn't wait to check-in and officially meet everyone. Time seemed to slow down as I waited for the minutes to pass by until I could finally check in too. Finally, it was my time. After I checked-in I headed up to my apartment (and struggled with the door because I can't figure out locks) and met my roommates! All but one person had checked-in before me.

It was a whirlwind of a day with everybody's family's present and people moving in and out trying to move in, but through the time I got to talk a bit with each of my new roommates, the three that I had hoped to room with and the two random roommates. Everyone was very chatty and nice. Everyone's family's were warm and welcoming to everyone else's families. I still can't believe how lucky I am to have the roommates I have and can't believe how nice and genuine everyone is.

When the day finally ended and I was all moved in, I hit the bed completely exhausted. Move-in day was a whirlwind of emotions and meeting people and settling into my new home. Move-in day was a magical time and I can't wait to see where else this journey takes me.
